The Spellathon
A major MVSEG fundraiser,
the Spellathon will be held
Friday April 25th, 2008.

This fun event allows kids to display their spelling prowess while raising money for the school. The committee counts on volunteers to help with the preparation and correction of papers.
This event includes all grades K-5
Dear Mar Vista Parents and Students,
The 2008 Spell-A-Thon will be held on Friday, April 25.
This is the one fundraiser we have where the kids study hard to earn those funds. So, get your sponsors signed up!
Remember, all donations (payable to MVSEG) are tax deductible, and all the money helps enrich our children’s education.
No amount is too small or too large.
Keep your pledge cards until after the 25th.
They will be collected through May 10.
The top fundraising student of each grade level will win a limo ride to lunch with Mrs. Weinstock, and the classes with highest percentage of participation will win a popsicle party.
The winners will be announced on Monday, May 12.
Wouldn’t it be great if every class has 100% participation for a school-wide Popsicle party?

We are well on our way toward reaching our goal of $65,000 and we hope every family will make a pledge this year. 100% parent participation of any amount would clearly say that the entire Mar Vista community supports our efforts.
To make your donation, there is a drop box outside the auditorium. You can also donate directly on our website using PayPal.

Want to be sure that a portion of your Ralphs shopping dollars continue to go to Mar Vista School?
Ralphs is requiring that all registered shoppers re-enroll their Ralphs Club Card in the Community Contribution Program. You can re-enroll (or enroll for the first time) with just a few simple steps:
1. Visit http://www.ralphs.com and click on “Community Contribution” and then “Participant” to register your card. Direct link here.
2. You will need to know your 13-digit Ralphs Club Card number. If you don’t know your number (or can’t read it off the back of your card) you can call the 800 number to retrieve it.
3. Mar Vista School’s NPO number: 83287
Each time you shop, swipe your Ralphs Club Card and a portion of your grocery dollars will automatically go to the school. Last year Ralphs donated over $3,000 to Mar Vista School. Thank you for your continued support!

YEARBOOK
Dear Parents,
It’s time again for us to begin our quest for pictures to use in the yearbook. This year we plan on working closely with the student historian and student council to capture everyday life at Mar Vista, from the student’s point of view.

From the parents, we are looking for pictures that capture everyday life at Mar Vista. In particular, we are looking for action pictures that depict everyday events such as classroom lessons and projects, special awards or presentations, friendships, group class pictures from a field trip, or just the kids doing their thing during recess, lunch or in class free time.
Pictures can be submitted digitally via a CD (preferred) or in print. Please submit photos in the “yearbook” mailbox in the main office. When submitting printed pictures, please put your name and room number on the back. We’ll return printed pictures to your child’s classroom teacher. We will be setting up an email account so you can email your pictures, but we prefer them in CD or print form.
If possible, please submit your pictures as you take them. The first deadline to submit pictures to us is December 14th. We will take more picture submissions in the spring.

Scrip is a gift certificate or gift card for participating local and national merchants
who donate a percentage of your purchase back to the school. Use it just like cash at

Bonus Buys…
The following retailers are offering bonus donations to the school for a limited time. Shop now and stock up for your holiday needs!
Bath & Body Works: Order your $10 and $25 gift cards and the school will receive a whopping 18% back from the retailer (normally 13%). There’s no limit to the number of cards you can use online and gift cards do not expire. Only until 12/4
L.L. Bean: L.L. Bean will contribute 17% (normally 15%) when you purchase $25 and $100 gift cards. Only until 11/21.
Subway: Subway has added $50 gift cards to their scrip program. Purchase $10 and $50 cards and Subway donates 3% back to the school.
Barnes & Noble: B&N is running a 1% bonus contribution when you purchase their $10, $20 teacher and $25 gift cards. Be sure to order your cards before 11/21.
Domino’s Pizza: New offer! Domino's now offers a Pizza & 2-liter Coke certificates for $14. Purchase these certificates by 11/15 and Domino’s will donate a ginormous 28% (normally 25%) back to the school. The gift certificate is redeemable for 1 Large, 1-topping Classic Hand Tossed Domino's Pizza & 2 liter bottle of Coke.
All these bonus contributions are only available when you purchase your scrip through the scrip program.

Scrip Table Fridays are back! Stop by the Scrip table on your way into the PTA meeting and get your Scrip for your weekend fun!
