Mar Vista Elementary

PTA Mission: National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.
The PTA is a volunteer organization that offers Mar Vista Elementary support in many areas.
SUPPORT THE PTA! JOIN NOW!
Here at Mar Vista our PTA members work hard to accomplish that mission.
What We Do:
1. Coordinate Room Parents who assist teachers with field trips, art projects, classroom parties and other special events.
2. The Child Welfare Program helps the children in our school who may not have the same advantages as others.
3. The Traffic and Safety Program ensures the safety of our children on the streets around the school.
4. The Big Boo Halloween Festival, not only is a lot of fun, but helps keeps our community spirit strong with the participation of many local businesses. The money the Big Boo raises, in large part, goes to Mar Vista ’s Student Body fund, which benefits every child at the school.
5. Copy Club provides support copying items for the teachers so that they can maximize their time and continue to provide the top quality education for which Mar Vista is known.
6. We design and distribute the annual Yearbook.
7. Offer fundraising opportunities through our bi-annual Book Fairs, Bake Sales, School Cents and Box Top/Soup Labels collection.
8. The Mar Vista Cares Committee is the Mar Vista School community mobilizing to help a family or families in need or crisis.
9. Continually show our appreciation for our hardworking teachers and staff throughout the year with Fabulous Fridays.
10. At the end of the year we celebrate our families with our Family Night party.
11. Add to all that our amazing Winter and Spring Concerts, and Founder’s Night, you see that the PTA works very hard to make this a wonderful school for our children.
Anyone can join the PTA including parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and neighbors. We encourage our families to send in two or more memberships. Just return your membership donations to the school with your child.
Remember: Your generous donation helps support our activities, locally and nationally, throughout the year.
As a member, you will receive a membership card, the 2009-2010 PTA directory, and access to various PTA sponsored clinics and educational events.
Let’s work together to support our children, teachers and each other. Join the PTA by sending in your $6 membership dues and help us reach 100% participation!

School Cents |

It’s a new year and that means the School Cents points race has begun! We are one of twenty schools who are eligible to earn points throughout the year at Westside Pavillion. At the end of the year, every school will receive American Express gift card rewards that can be spent at Westside Pavilion Stores. The higher place the school, the more the reward. Last year, Mar Vista came in 4th place and received $1500.00 in American Express gift cards! These were redeemed for items for Care Club, the red shed, and the whole school including Scribble Press smencils for each student!
Throughout the school year, from now until May 15th, shop at the Westside Pavilion, then take your receipts to the Customer Service desk on the second floor. Tell them you would like them logged for Mar Vista School and we receive a point for every dollar spent. Each month various stores may be worth double or triple points, so look out for those notices.
In addition the receipts, there are monthly events such as Kids Club, a blood drive, and a 5K race that earn big points. Let's all do our best to make Mar Vista number 1
! The next Kids Club event will be Wednesday October 7th 6:00-6:45pm in the food court. This one is a free magic show! They say Harry Potter may even make an appearance! For each attending child, Mar Vista will receive 500 points! Meet up with some of your new and old friends and make it an evening with dinner in the food court! Its free and a great midweek night out and lots of fun. Just look for a Mar Vista representative and sign in each child you bring.
Another special event in October is the free Kids are First Child ID kit making and car seat checks. The ID kits will be made in the food court area and the car seat checks will be done in the valet parking area underneath the Landmark theaters by licensed car seat technicians. Each ID Kit made will earn 500 points for Mar Vista !
Thank you for your support!
More information to be announced.

Mar Vista Cares committee is the Mar Vista School community mobilizing to help a family or families in need or crisis. For instance, if a kindergarten mom has just had a baby and would like some extra help, Mar Vista Cares organizes other parents in her child's classroom to deliver meals for a few weeks until she gets back on her feet. We could do the same in the case of illness or death -- any major event that prevents a family from functioning normally. We will work closely with the family in question to find out what kind of help, if any, they want and will strive to maintain as much discretion as they prefer.

Fabulous Friday is a potluck brunch held for the teachers and staff in the Care Lab on the last school-attended Friday of each month. Parents, (assigned by grade levels), provide the food for this special monthly event. A variety of dishes is greatly appreciated. There are approximately 100 people who will partake.
The food is served at 10:00 am, at the beginning of recess.
A Fabulous Friday packet will be provided to the grade level Room Parent Committee representative who will coordinate the distribution of food items and quantities between all classrooms in the grade level who hosts the Fabulous Friday. All paper goods, food items, beverages, etc, will then be requested to the parents in a classroom. Each classroom in the grade is given there own list of foods to bring to avoid duplications.
This year’s Fabulous Fridays will be hosted as follows:
Sep. 25 PTA & MVSEG
Oct. 30 5th Grade Parents
Nov. 20 4th Grade Parents
Dec. 18 Mrs. Weinstock
Jan. 29 3rd Grade Parents
Feb. 26 2nd Grade Parents
Mar. 26 1st Grade Parents
Apr. 30 Kindergarten Parents
May 28 Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
The Fabulous Friday coordinators are responsible for making sure we have set up and clean up and food slots taken care of. We also request you return all serving plates and utensils to their owners. Every classroom should provide these helpers. Set-up volunteers should arrive by 8:15 a.m. Clean-up volunteers should be on hand by 11:00 a.m.

FOUNDERS NIGHT
Mar Vista's Founder's Day celebrates the founding of the National PTA and its legacy and influence at Mar Vista School . Our PTA presidents speak, our chorus performs, and we recognize former PTA Honorary Service Award winners and PTA presidents. (The PTA Honorary Service Award honors parents, teachers, principals, and staff who have provided extraordinary and outstanding volunteer service to our school.) The highlight of the evening is when we surprise current PTA members with Honorary Service Awards.
